In line with its effort towards Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Tata Steel’s Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ) Division today organised a seminar titled “Udaan” for women employees at JRDTTI Auditorium, Noamundi. The seminar was inaugurated by Ruchi Narendran, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. 

The seminar was organised with an objective of appreciating the uniqueness that women bring in the changing world of work. Recognising the positive impact of gender diversity, Tata Steel launched a comprehensive and far-reaching D&I programme called MOSAIC in June 2015.The seminar was organised by the women employees of OMQ Division. 

Appreciating the initiative, Narendran said: “Women have always had it in themselves to overcome any challenge. This seminar in the form of knowledge sharing sessions, is indeed a special intervention by Tata Steel to educate, sensitize and promote gender diversity. ”

In a day-long programme, 7 women speakers, namely, Margaret Hepworth, Peace Educator and Director of The Gandhi Experiment, Melbourne, Australia; Namreta Chadha, Lawyer, Bhubaneshwar; Vidya Nair, Partnership and Co-creation, LEAD India, Delhi; Mona Yadav, Co-Founder, NGO Sahas, Delhi; Anamika Majumdar, KBC winner, Jamshedpur; Dutee Chand, Professional Sprinter and Olympian, Bhubaneshwar and Mousumi Das Ghosh, Gynecologist, Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur, shared their experiences with participants. This was followed by outdoor team building activities for women. The seminar focused on having a positive outlook at workplace, understanding the essentials to assertiveness, dealing with difficult situations and polishing the art of understanding the unspoken message like body language and active listening. Total 200 women employees from all locations of Tata Steel participated in the seminar. The welcome address was given by Pankaj Satija, Chairperson, Raw Materials, MOSAIC.

Margaret Hepworth, expressing her views said: “ In order to empower women, we also need empower men. The world is changing and initiatives like these are going to shape-up a better tomorrow. ”
As part of D&I, Tata Steel at OMQ Division has been organising many programmes on team building, work-life balance, effective communication, women rights and financial planning for women. Gender diversity is something the Division has been focusing on for the last few years and has come a long way in addressing the subject. 

In Tata Steel, several initiatives have been taken to build an equitable environment and diverse workplace. MOSAIC is a driver towards this goal. It defines the path the company should take to build a people oriented culture that both celebrates and encourages D&I. It is also one of the steps towards Sustainable Development Goal of UN to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.
Present on the occasion were Meeta Singhal, Ekta Satija, Seema Dhall, Anu Mali, Nitu Srivastava and senior officials of the company.
