In a major move to transform the sick PSU, the Narendra Modi government has directed Energy Efficiency Services Ltd(ESSL) to make the Ranchi based Heavy Engineering Corporation use its premise and supply electric cars.

No joke. Toward this end, this HEC has signed a MoU with EESL for electric cars supply in Ranchi on August 31. This was informed by HEC-CMD, Avijit Ghosh who together with EESL Regional Manager, Rakesh Jha inked it inside HEC Headquarters premises in the presence of other senior officials.

HEC was set up as PSU in collaboration with the Soviet Union government by the Jawahar Lal Nehru government in early 1960's. Later it turned sick. On the other hand, under Union Ministry of Power, EESL is a joint venture of four PSUs-NTPC, PFCL, RECL and POWERGRID Corporation of India Ltd.EESL was set up recently by the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per the agreement made between the two PSUs, EESL will convert all electric equipments like light, fans, ACs into energy efficient devices inside HEC premises. The cost will be borne by EESL for the coming five years.

As per the estimate, over 16,000 electronic appliances worth Rs. 14 crore of HEC are planned to be modernised and changed.

Also, as per the MoU, EESL plans to provide 20 diesel cars to be turned into electric cars to HEC. More, EESL plans to use modern technology and its resources to utilise the HEC's premise, its staff and engineers to convert diesel cars into electric cars.

As it is,EESL and HEC are the first PSUs in India to take up such an innovative initiative.Which means while HEC turns alive,EESL starts functioning from the HEC premise.

To begin with, EESL has already provided one diesel turned electric car to HEC for trial purpose. Soon, more cars are expected to be provided by it soon.
