For the first time, a tribal art form called Sohrai is being used to display mother goddess Durga in Jharkhand capital. So, a worker puts up Sohrai painting at the pandal of RR Sporting Club in Ranchi.

From the culture of tribals and green concerns to the trophy of cricket's World Cup 2019, an array of themes are going to be displayed at Durga Puja pandals in Ranchi this year.

A day after urban development minister C.P. Singh held a meeting with civic officials and Puja organisers at the Ranchi Municipal Corporation office, promising to extend all civic help to organisers to dry up rain-wet grounds, enthused Puja committees shared their innovative themes with media persons.

The pandal of Ranchi Railway Station Durga Puja Samiti will showcase the beauty of artists. While the pandal of OCC Durga Puja near Ranchi Lake will depict tribal culture, Sangram Club in Kutchery, which stepped in its 49th year, will highlight global warming.

"We want to spread the message of environment protection through our pandal. Our budget is around Rs 6.5 lakh," said Rajesh Kumar Lal, patron of Sangram Club.

Celebrating its 32nd year, RR Sporting Club on Ratu Road is using tribal culture in the shape of a temple. "From the pandal to the idol, everything is being made using coconut shells. We are spending Rs 35 lakh on the pandal," said Vicky Yadav, patron of RR Sporting Club.

Most important is the resolve of the state administration to judge 150 Durga pandals in Ranchi on different cleanliness parameters like waste management and swachhta awareness strategies.
