A day before the municipal polls in Jharkhand,the police have recovered a cash sum of Rs 22.66 lakh from City Palace hotel in Ranchi today.

The cash was lying packed in three bags.Reports said that when the police raided the premise on a tip off and recovered the money,Ranchi’s outgoing Mayor Rama Khalko and ex Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay were present in the hotel.

The room from where the cash was found was booked in the name of one Congress leader Niranjan Sharma.During the recovery,two Income Tax sleuths were present.Sudhir Sahu,who was taken to custody,was being interrogated by the police and IT sleuths.

Incidentally,Khalko is a Mayoral candidate supported by the Congress led by Sahay.However,both Sahay and Khalko have denied any link with the cash.”Our supporters were present in the room.But this does not mean that the money belonged to us”,she said.
