Come April 14 and all Bengalis across the world will celebrate the onset of their New Year- Poila Baisakh.

To mark this annual festival,most of them offer puja and exchange greetings.This year they were greeted by none other than the US Secretary John Kerry.

“ On behalf of President Obama, I convey my warm greetings to all Bengali-speaking people around the world as you celebrate Poila Baisakh’,says Kerry

“ The American people wish you all happiness and prosperity in the New Year. The vibrant Bengali-American diaspora will join the global Bengali community in gathering with family and friends to celebrate your many accomplishments’,said a press release issued by the Consulate.

It adds: “As the New Year begins, let us all celebrate the rich cultures of Bengalis everywhere in a spirit of optimism and mutual appreciation. Shubho Nobo Borsho!”
