Planning Commission Member(Science) K.Kasturirangan today visited the Indian Council of Agriculture Research’s unit-HARP-at Palandu,17 km from Ranchi in Jharkhand.

After inspecting the farm carrying rows of fruit bearing trees and plants,he addressed a meeting of officials and a group of farmers inside the HARP complex.

“The second green revolution will take place in Jharkhand”,observed Kasturirangan while speaking.”Jharkhand’s soil and weather condition are suitable for horticulture.As such,quality fruits and vegetables can be grown here.”

When apprised of the works done in the field of horticulture research and transfer of technology from lab to fields of the farmers in parts of Eastern India including Jharkhand by HARP led by its Principal Scientist Shivendra Kumar,Kasturirangan appreciated them and asked them to train more and more farmers so that they take up horticulture to raise their income.

The meeting was attended among others by Jharkhand’s Development Commissioner AK Sarkar,Principal Secretary(Agriculture) Arun Kumar Singh,Director(Jharkhand State Horticulture Mission)Prabhakar Singh and Principal Secretary(Water Resources)Santosh Kumar Satapathy.
