Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Jal Jeevan Mission: Har Ghar Jal on August 15, 2019. 

Less than four years down the line, question is how many people got drinking water facility?

Investigations revealed that the aim of the scheme was to ensure safe and sufficient drinking water access for rural households.

On March 7, 2024, the Jal Jeevan Mission record shows that tap water connections were provided to more than 75% of households nationwide.

In a report accessed by JharkhandStateNews.com revealed that Jal Jeevan Mission has elevated rural tap connection coverage from a mere 3.23 Crore households in 2019 to over 14.50 Crore rural households within a period of around four years.

Progress Under the Mission (as of March 14, 2024)

➢ 14.50 Crore (75.15%) of rural households in the country have been provided with tap

➢ water connection.

➢ 185 districts, 1,812 blocks, 1,00,044 Gram Panchayats,and 2,09,481 villages have reported to achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status.

➢ The Government of India accords priority to Japanese Encephalitis (JE)-Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) affected Districts to ensure potable tap water supply in all the households under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Over 2.23 Crore households (75.14 %) in JE AES water quality-affected regions are getting access to clean tap water.

➢ 11 States/UTs, which include, Goa, A &N Islands, Dadra Nagar Haveli & Daman Diu, Haryana, Telangana, Puducherry, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh haveprovided tap water connection to all rural households (100%) in the respective State/UT as on March 14, 2024.

➢ As of March 14, 2024, 9,30,460 schools and 9,65,960 Aanganwadi centres have tap water supply.

 

With continued efforts, the mission aims to bridge the rural-urban gap and enhance public health outcomes, bringing the vision of 'Har Ghar Jal' closer to realization for all rural households in India.
