Seven teachers/ researchers from the NIT Jamshedpur in Jharkhand have been selected in the recently released list of the world’s top 2% of scientists.

A total of 6,239 scientists from India had participated in the 2025 edition, including seven teachers/ researchers from the NIT Jamshedpur.

The list was compiled by Stanford University.The evaluation  was based on the Scopus database in collaboration with Elsevier. 

Professor John P.A. Ioanna and his team used specific criteria for selecting scientists, including citation impact, h-index, co-authorship network, and research productivity. The ranking is based on data from 2019-2023 and measures scientists’ (teachers/ researchers)career-wise and single-year impact.

The NIT Jamshedpur scientists included in the list are Balram Ambade: Department of Chemistry, Sunil Kumar: Department of Mathematics, Saikat Ranjan Maiti: Mechanical Engineering, Satish Kumar: Chemical Engineering, Surjeet Kundu: Electronics and Communications, V.P. Meena: Electrical Engineering, Sanjay Kumar: Mechanical Engineering

These scientists( read teachers/ researchers) have been selected based on their significant research contributions, published articles in international journals, and patents. Their work has focused on topics such as mathematical modeling, data analysis, materials science, thermal engineering, electronics, and chemical engineering.

This achievement mirrors  NIT Jamshedpur’s research capabilities, international contributions, and growing reputation in the academic world.

The institute has stated that this ‘achievement’ not only enhances the prestige of NIT Jamshedpur but also inspires and motivates students to pursue research. 

In effect, this can increase government funding, international collaborations, and student placements.
