The Planning Commission will now be called ‘Neeti Ayog’. Months before Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that it will replaced by a new body.

Earlier Modi held consultations with chief ministers at a meeting where most of them had supported the idea of restructuring the old body except some Congress Chief Ministers who opposed disbanding of the Planning Commission.

Modi had announced in his Independence Day speech that the Planning Commission would be soon replaced by a new body keeping in mind the changing pattern of the contemporary economic world.
