The roads are free from siren blowing vehicles. The securitymen terrorizing the commoners to give way to beacon light fitted vehicles of ministers are no where to be seen.Even the ex ministers are missing.
Welcome to Jharkhand where the President’s rule has left the officials and staff of the state government busy disposing files as the Governor Syed Ahmad and his two Advisors Madhukar Gupta and K Vijay Kumar themselves were out to prove their mettle.
All these have begun to provide relief to people.”We wish this President’s rule continues. It can set things right given the fact that Gupta and Kumar are well meaning and hard working”,says Dinkar Manjhi,a school teacher, echoing the sentiments of commonmen in Jharkhand.
But faced with the snub by the Congress none of whose top leaders were inclined to lift the President’s rule and form the government by joining hands with the JMM,RJD and tainted Independent MLAs such as Enos Ekka and Harinarain Rai,who were out of jail on bail in corruption cases, the JMM’s Shibu Soren and his son Hemant seem to have been pushed to a blind alley.
The immediate fall out of their move to topple the Arjun Munda government in the state was widening of the divide within the JMM.Factions led by Simon Marandi who backed Sorens and another backed by Hemlal Murmu, who had questioned Hemant’s decision to withdraw support to the Munda government, are learnt to be exploring greener pestures.
“Nothing is likely to happen now.But when elections will be around, many of our party’s 18 MLAs can quit and join other parties such as All Jharkhand Students Union,Jharkhand Vikas Morcha and the BJP”,said a senior JMM leader on condition of anonymity.
In their desperate bid to keep the party intact,Sorens have convened a meeting of the party in Giridih on March 3.The party’s executives, district presidents and secretaries are likely to attend it.The agenda is two fold. One,organizational polls. Two,strategy to be adopted in the given situation when the Congress high command was not ready to shake hands with the JMM to form the government in Jharkhand.
