The parking zone at Project Bhawan in Ranchi is almost empty. And palpable tension inside the Jharkhand state secretariat, speaks volumes about the government that appears to have run out of fuel now.

There is not much work that has taken place since the political crisis overpowered the state secretariat on August 25.

The state Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh has proceeded on leave albeit on “ health grounds”.From his several colleagues of the IAS rank officers to the office staff across departments, uncertainty is the dominant sentiment.

Some of them were watching online digital media platforms on their mobiles and TVs to know Chief Minister Hemant Soren holding meetings with MLAs of his party JMM and its allies inside his CM office on August 27.

At the secretariat, many were unanimous that Soren’s humble style of functioning did more for the state than the aggression of the previous BJP government led by Raghubar Das. However, there is mass apathy in the bureaucracy as officers and staff who had seen a change of chief ministership umpteen times since Jharkhand was born in 2000, feel that transfers are eminent.

Inside Bhawan, most chambers of IAS officers and staff are under the lock and key. In absence of the CS Sukhdeo Singh who has been on leave, nobody was there to question their absence.

Even CM Soren had not attended office at the Project Bhawan for days. So was the case with most of his cabinet colleagues.

Facing the threat of disqualification from the assembly, CM Soren and his ally Congress are busy trying to keep a vigil on MLAs of his party JMM and its allies.

PTI reports that Soren-led allies were shifting their MLAs in AC buses to resorts - “the usual tactic of dodging attempts at poaching lawmakers and bringing down governments.”

Reports say they were being taken to a star Moments Resort in Patratu to prevent possible poaching attempts by the BJP, it is learnt. Moments resort,17.5 km from  Ranchi, is located close to Sanatorium. Its incredible property offers well-crafted rooms, an elegant restaurant, a swimming pool, and a range of facilities.

A positive outcome of the uncertainty created by the ECI’s sealed envelop sent to Jharkhand Governor, seeking disqualification of Hemant Soren as MLA, and the latter’s reported decision to approve it and send another sealed envelop to ECI today to make public their decisions in New Delhi as and when possible( may take two-three days), is that peace prevails even as a war of words continues between leaders of the ruling JMM- Congress and the BJP in Jharkhand.
