By joining the Congress Ex BJP MP Ramtahal Choudhary has cast a shadow on the political life of popular Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay.
With Choudhary in the grand old party, Subodh Kant Sahay is not likely to get a ticket to contest the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat.
Reports say Congress will field Choudhary against the BJP’s seating MP Sanjay Seth from Ranchi seat.
As BJP leader, Choudhary who had represented Ranchi Lok Sabha seat five times, comes from Kurmi Mahto caste. The Kurmi Mahto caste has a sizable population in the constituency.
In 2019, Chaudhary was denied a ticket by BJP due to age factor. Protesting against the BJP’s decision, he had contested the LS polls as an independent.
Choudhary lost the deposit. Born in 1942, he represented Ranchi Lok Sabha from Ranchi from 1991 to 2004 and then from 2014 to 2019.
Apart from being a politician, he is also a social worker and educationist. In 2019, he had got just 2.4% vote share.
On the other hand, BJP was the winner with 7,06,828 Votes and defeated Congress Subodh Kant Sahay by 2,83,026 votes. Seth had bagged 57.21% Vote Share.
As the runner-up, Congress ‘ Subodh Kant Sahay had gained 4,23,802 votes, approximately 34.3% of vote share. Choudhary had got only 29,597 Votes, 2.4% Vote Share.
Now, Seth, despite illness, is much more active both in the constituency and in the House. Seth is credited with bringing several projects to Ranchi including the Ranchi Ratu Road flyover among others.
Also, Seth had recorded 87% attendance in Parliament.
