The Hemant Soren government has come up with advertisement in local dailies, TV channels and Web news providers announcing its plans to provide 200 units of electricity free of cost to domestic consumers in Jharkhand.
In the past, the Soren government used to provide 150 units of power free to domestic consumers. This means it has scaled up the same scheme to 200 units, raising 50 units free for them every month.
As per its plan, the new free power scheme of 200 units entails no ‘energy charge’,’fixed charge’, ‘electricity duty’ and ‘ FFPA charge’.
The scheme will come into force with effect from the upcoming power bill of July,2024. To make the move maintainable, the Soren government has decided to provide Rs 350 crore subsidy to its subsidiary Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd every month.
As per the advertisements, each sponsored by the state Information and Public Relation Department, as many as 41.44 lakh of total 45.77 lakh power consumers in the state will benefit from this scheme.
The timing of its announcement and implementation has gained significance since the state is slated to go to the Assembly polls before end of the current year 2024.
Aware of it, Chief Minister Hemant Soren made announcement of this 200 units of free electricity to domestic consumers in a function at Matkambeda village, Rajnagar block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on July 25.
It was a day before the monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly, scheduled to be the last session of the 5th Assembly constituted in 2019, is beginning on July 26.
