On Saturday, while the nation will celebrate National Youth Day to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Ranchi Lake called Badka Talab will gain the tallest bronze statue showing him in standing posture.

The 33 feet height statue of Swami Vivekanand will be unveiled on January 12 by Chief Minister Raghubar Das in presence of many Ministers and other dignitaries. 

Vivekananda's statue is claimed to be the first of its kind in India and is expected to set a benchmark by grabbing coveted honour of his highest statue set up in middle of the lake in the tribal heartland. Earlier the 22 feet Swami’s figurine was set up at Nagpur decked up at a park in 2016.

The project of installation of Vivekanand’s statue is on the verge of completion right now.Ram V Sutar, the sculptor who is a recipient of Padma Bhushan, has designed the 33 feet bronze figurine at a whopping cost of Rs. 15 crores.

As many as 142 pillars have been built inside the pond in consultation with the real estate company – Shapoorji Pallonji Group. The construction work of pillars for linking bridges was completed recently while the Department of Urban Development, Housing and Planning in association Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has the responsibility of restoring the water body on the line of Mumbai’s Marine Drive.

Though no system was developed to keep the water of this lake free from pollution, the work of cleaning and fencing is being done at the venue right now. Extra labourers have been deputed. We are in touch with workers and the officials,” said Mayor Asha Lakra.

Notably, in January 2016, CM Raghubar Das laid the foundation stone of the ambitious project with a vision to boost tourism. After crossing several stumbling blocks, the detailed project report (DPR) for giving a facelift to Ranchi Lake was prepared.

The project was conceived by the Department of Urban Development, Housing and Planning, Department of Sports, Tourism in assistance with MECON Limited and other civil construction firms.

The pond beautification, the restoration project is being carried out under the supervision of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC).
