Amidst continuous rainfall, men, women, and children from tribal communities across Jharkhand celebrated the 'Karam' festival, one of the biggest harvest festivals in the state.

As the rains poured, group dance and traditional song, and music echoed in tribal dominated areas across the state capital city on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Even though rain continued to fall, the tribal men and women not only danced, but also worshiped ‘Karam’ trees and prayed for a rich harvest in the Kharif season.

Notably, Karam is symbolic of sibling love and conservation of nature.

The community grounds and homes were beautifully decorated with flowers and leaves to signify the festive occasion. The rainwater pouring on them with LED lighting beautified the ecosystem.

Earlier, on Wednesday evening, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and other dignitaries took part in the ‘Karam Mahotsav’ organised at the tribal hostel complex in Ranchi Women's College.

“We are all bound by the traditions and culture of this land. People from every section and community move forward with their respective customs and culture," Soren is on record as having said. “Our ancestors entrusted us with the responsibility of taking forward significant occasions like the ‘Karam’ festival. Our generation, along with future generations, should continue to uphold this rich tradition with reverence and harmony," he said.

Even Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Soren greeted people on the occasion.

Notably, unlike a one-day celebration in the past, this year, in 2025, the state government offices were closed for two days on Wednesday and Thursday.
