Ranchi: A three-day Capacity Building Programme is being organised at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi.
The programme which began on Friday is being conducted by the Chair on Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP). Presidents and Members of the Jharkhand State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission will participate in the programme. It will be held from 23rd to 25th August 2025 in the Academic Block of the University.
The objective of this programme is to enhance the institutional capacity of the members of the Consumer Commissions, strengthen their legal and procedural knowledge, and develop a better understanding of the consumer protection framework.
This will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the consumer grievance redressal process. The programme is being organised with financial support from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.
The inauguration of the programme will be presided over by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, President, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), New Delhi.
The event will be attended by Hon’ble Justice (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Jain, Member, NCDRC; Dr. Rajeshwar Kumar, Director, Indian Institute of Legal Metrology (IILM), Ranchi; Shri Basant Kumar Goswami, Acting President, Jharkhand State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Ranchi; and Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, NUSRL, Ranchi.
During the programme, experts will conduct detailed sessions on important topics such as real estate/builder-buyer disputes, insurance disputes, deficiencies in banking services, grievance redressal mechanism under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, judgment writing skills, procedural efficiency, e-Daakhil, e-Jagrati, dark patterns, penalties and warrants, and food safety.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed between NUSRL, Ranchi and the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology (IILM), Ranchi.
Speaking about the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor of NUSRL, said, “This programme is a significant step towards strengthening the consumer justice system. It is a matter of pride for us to share knowledge and build the capacity of the members of the Consumer Commissions of Jharkhand.”
Shri Abhinav Gupta, Faculty Convenor of the Chair on Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP), stated, “A strong and aware judiciary is essential for protecting consumer rights. Through this programme, we aim to further strengthen consumer protection in Jharkhand.” The programme will conclude with a valedictory session on 25th August.
