Ranchi: The first day of the three-day Capacity Building Programme for the Presidents and Members of the Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions of Jharkhand was successfully organised today at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi. 

The programme is being conducted under the aegis of the Chair on Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP).

The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, President of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), New Delhi. 

The event was attended by Hon’ble Justice (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Jain, Member, NCDRC; Dr. Rajeshwar Kumar, Director, Indian Institute of Legal Metrology (IILM), Ranchi; Shri Basant Kumar Goswami, Acting President of the Jharkhand State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Ranchi, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor of NUSRL; Dr. Jisu Ketan Pattanaik, Assistant Registrar of NUSRL; and Mr. Abhinav Gupta, Faculty Convenor of CCRP.

A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NUSRL, Ranchi and the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology (IILM), Ranchi, aimed at promoting knowledge exchange and joint research initiatives.

The technical sessions focused on key aspects of consumer protection. The first session, led by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, covered in-depth issues such as real estate/builder-buyer disputes, insurance disputes, and deficiencies in banking services.

The second session, conducted by Hon’ble Justice (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Jain, elaborated on the grievance redressal mechanism under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. This was followed by a panel discussion where participants engaged in a question-and-answer session.

 

The day concluded with a special student interaction session, where Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi addressed students from NUSRL, answered their questions, and provided guidance on building a meaningful career in the field of consumer law. The session was highly informative and inspiring.

Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor of NUSRL, remarked, "Today's sessions have laid a strong foundation for understanding the nuances of the consumer justice system. The direct interaction of students with the Hon’ble Judge was a rare opportunity."

The three-day programme continues today with its second day, featuring discussions on judgment writing skills, procedural efficiency, and digital initiatives by experts, including the President of the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
