A day after the tribal outfits’ protest against the land acquisition for the implementation of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) 2 project of the state government on Sunday, the Assembly session began on Monday.

All opposition lawmakers were up in arms against these two issues. The state government stands determined to deal with them.

One, the imposition of Section 144, undeclared curfew, house arrest of BJP MLA, Champai Soren, and deployment of 1200 jawans in Nagri area near Kanke in Ranchi.

Amid these police measures, followed by tear gas shelling, protesting tribals- men, women and children-crossed the flowing river and rivulet and brought down the fencing of the controversial land at six plots acquired by the state government for the RIMS-2 project( see the picture).

As per the plan of the Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, RIMS-2 project entails construction of a hospital, college, labs, hostels, conference hall and so on over the controversial 120 acres of land acquired by the state government for Birsa Agriculture University before 1981.

Two, is the burning issue connected with the alleged killing of a former BJP leader from Lalmatiya in Godda district, Surya Hansda in a police “encounter” on August 10. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has already investigated the case and interrogated the responsible police officers.
