Wishes poured in for CP Radhakrishnan after he was elected as India's 15th vice president on Tuesday, defeating Opposition candidate and Supreme Court judge Justice (retired) B. Sudershan Reddy.
He got 452 votes against B. Sudershan Reddy who secured 300, a figure that showed cracks in the Opposition ranks due to cross-voting by some Opposition MPs.
Across the country, top functionaries of the ruling NDA, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wished him.
In Jharkhand, where CP Radhakrishnan, who was Governor from February 2023 to July 2024, promoted the Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank(KMEB) by participating in its function ‘Run for Vision’, his victory was cheered by eye donors and eye doctors.
KMEB’s founders and a couple of Dr. BP Kashyap and his wife, Dr Bharti Kashyap, two prominent ophthalmologists, celebrated his victory by wishing him.” Mr CP Radhakrishnanji will prove to be one of the best VPs of India”, Dr Bharti Kashyap clapped.
Notably, Dr Kashyaps are credited with facilitating the donation and transplantation of corneas by connecting with donors and eye banks. KMEB, under their command, collects, processes, and distributes donated tissues for corneal transplant surgeries to restore sight.
They, together with Manoj Prasad, senior journalist who is Editor of JharkhandStateNews.com, had met Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar at the latter's office in Ranchi-Raj Bhawan and invited him to participate in the Run for Vision. In response, he had commended their work and participated in the function.
“His victory as the Vice President of India is a matter of joy for the whole country. CP Radhakrishnanji has been continuously associated with the public in his long public life. The Upper House will definitely benefit from a close understanding of the ground issues and his experience," Dr BP Kashyap said.
Manoj Prasad said that CP Radhakrishnan's deep understanding of people's issues will benefit the nation.
"Congratulations to CP Radhakrishnanji on winning the Vice Presidential elections. His long public life, wide experience and deep understanding of people's issues will certainly benefit the nation. I am confident that he will make an exceptional VP & Rajya Sabha Chairman," Manoj Prasad tweeted.
