Faced with the ongoing anti- Naxal operation of the security forces, Maoists were on the run across Jharkhand. Many of them had either gone under ground or were eliminated.
The Union Home Minister has promised to make the country free from Naxalite violence by mid 2026.
Against this backdrop, at least ten Maoists, including two young female left wing ultras, surrendered themselves before State DGP Anurag Gupta in Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
DGP Anurag Gupta who had reportedly facilitated their surrender process welcomed the Naxalites and lauded their resolve to give up arms and join the mainstream.
The surrender programme was organised at the Chaibasa Police Line in West Singhbhum, a tribal dominated district languishing under the terror of Naxalites for decades.
Upbeat over the development, the DGP Anurag Gupta claimed it to be the ‘ success’ of the police administration’s relentless efforts that brought back Naxals into the mainstream.
As per the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation policy, each Naxal who surrenders and hands over arms, is provided with a Bank cheque of Rs. 1.5 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Mr Gupta claimed that Naxalites would be completely wiped out from the state by December 31, 2025.
