By erecting a Vatican-themed Durga Puja pandal in Ranchi,the organisers belonging to RR Sports club have gained widespread criticism among Hindus.
“ It’s shame”, said Sudhakar Mishra, a VHP worker.”Vatican is the a landlocked sovereign city-state and the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, located within Rome, Italy.” Inquiry should be ordered to find out who have funded the RR Sports Club to create this fake Vatican.”
Goddess Durga is worshipped by Hindus across the world. In eastern India, scores of organisations, each collect donations from people, set up Durga pandals, each show casing art and handicrafts.
The RR Sporting club, run by late Krishna Yadav’s sons who were linked with the Rashtriya Janata Dal led by its founder Lalu Prasad Yadav has been organising Durga Puja pandals for long.
This time when RJD is an ally of the ruling JMM led by Hemant Soren, has erected Vatican-themed Durga Puja pandal sparking controversy.
The organisers said Vatican shaped Durga Pandal was aimed at promoting brotherhood. But the VHP and the BJP workers have raised concerns.
The tableau, erected by RR Sporting club has domes, tall pillars, and statues reminiscent of Catholic Christian cathedrals. Inside, above the platform where the Durga idol is placed,cathedral looks apparent as dome-like structure carries framed images of Jesus, Mary, and other Christian figures.
“ This is really too much. Just to gain political mileage, the RR sports club has tarnished the faith linked with mother goddess Durga”, said Ashok Singh, a BJP worker.
