The average air quality index (AQI) in the capital city of Jharkhand stood at 151– a “ moderate” category considered unhealthy as pollution levels worsened a day after Diwali 2025 celebrations.
Before lightening of lamps and firing crackers and bombs on the occasion of Diwali, the AQI in Ranchi was 134 which is also reported as “moderate”.
On Diwali night( October 20,2025), the AQI plunged into the "moderate yet poor" category, according to environmentalists.
The steel cities of Bokaro and Jamshedpur were no better off, with the AQI at 155 and 158 respectively.
In these two steel industry packed cities of Jharkhand,the air pollution levels worsened a day after Diwali celebrations on Tuesday( October 21,2025) morning.
An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good", 51 to 100 "satisfactory", 101 to 200 "moderate", 201 to 300 "poor", 301 to 400 "very poor", and 401 to 500 "severe".
