By pulling out of the upcoming Bihar polls 2025,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has backed its allies Congress and RJD.

How?

None of JMM candidates will contest the poll and thereby not cause spoiler effect for the Congress and RJD. In fact, spoiler effect happens when a losing candidate affects the results of an election simply by participating and becoming Vote-katwa or vote-cutter.

Aware of the ongoing tussle within Mahagathbandhan, JMM chief and Chief Minister Hemant Soren preferred to sacrifice his party’s interests for the political fate of its two allies - Congress and RJD.

In 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, the JMM had fielded five candidates. It did not win one seat. In these five constituencies, this party had gained only 25,213 votes.

In Chakai ,Elizabeth Soren had secured 16,985 votes. In percentage of total votes polled was 8.96 percent.Similarly, Katoria( ST Reserve) constituency, Anjela Hansda had gained 5606 votes- 3.52 percent of total votes polled.

In Pirpanti constituency, JMM candidate Nirmala Devi managed to get just 376 votes- 0.37 percent of total votes polled. In Jhajha constituency, JMM’s Ajit Kumar got 1186 votes- 0.61 percent of total votes polled. And in Manihari constituency( ST Reserve),JMM’s Fulmani Hembram had secured 1059 votes- 0.58 percent of total votes polled.

As per Election Commision of India published record of 2020 Assembly polls, the Congress party’s Manohar Prasad Singh had won the Manihari ( ST Reserve) seat whereas the BJP’s Nikki Hembrom had won Katoria ( ST Reserve) seat in Bihar.

Against this backdrop, the RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav offered Katoria ( ST Reserve) seat to JMM whose leader had demanded “ seven” seats. When denied the JMM leaders including CM Hemant Soren made statements indicating that there was ‘betrayal’ and that their party will put up candidates in Bihar polls.

However, behind the doors discussion continued and the Congress high command reportedly requested CM Hemant Soren to“ take favourable decision” for the Mahagathbandhan- known as Grand Alliance, is a coalition of political parties including Congress, RJD, Left parties and JMM.

Just ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, tensions have flared within the Mahagathbandhan, as Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) clash over seat-sharing and the choice of Chief Ministerial candidate.

In view of the crumbling Mahagathbandhan, the CM Hemant Soren led JMM,which currently holds power in Jharkhand as part of an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, has stated it will not contest from any constituency in the forth coming Bihar elections.

Elections for 243 seats of the Bihar assembly will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and November 11.

The Opposition will now face those elections divided, weakened, and exposed. Every vote JMM could have brought to the table is gone. Every seat JMM supporters might have swung is now up for grabs.
