As the Mahaparv-Chhat festival is just hours away, railway stations in Bihar and Jharkhand are packed with the arrival of travellers from across the country.
Many passengers have complained of inordinate delay in the departure of trains from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. However, most travellers have lauded the cleanliness, punctuality, and staff courtesy across stations and trains this year.
A passenger from New Delhi who landed in Ranchi on Thursday appreciated the improved hygiene and organisation at the station, noting visible efforts in maintaining sanitation and passenger convenience.
Similarly, a traveller from Bengaluru to Patna praised the clean coaches and helpful staff, while Randhir Singh highlighted the ease of online ticketing, orderly queueing, and RPF vigilance during the festive rush.
At Dhanbad Railway Station, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) offered special assistance to elderly, disabled, and sick passengers, ensuring safe boarding and a hassle-free journey.
Through its extensive network, dedicated workforce, and passenger-first approach, Indian Railways continues to live up to its role as the lifeline of the nation.
From increasing special trains to improving cleanliness, safety, and real-time crowd management, every measure has been taken to make festive travel seamless and reliable.
With over 12,000 special services planned through November, the initiative demonstrates Indian Railways’ ongoing commitment to ensuring that every passenger can celebrate Chhath with family comfortably, safely, and on time.
As people prepare to celebrate Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has announced the operation of 1,500 special trains over the two- three days to cater to the massive festive rush.
With an average of 300 special trains running daily, the initiative underscores the Railways’ commitment to ensuring safe, convenient, and comfortable travel for millions heading home for the festival.
From October 1 to November 30, 2025, Indian Railways will operate over 12,000 special trains across the country to manage the festive travel demand during Diwali and Chhath Puja. So far, 11,865 train trips (covering 916 trains) have been notified, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips.
This marks a significant rise compared to the previous year, when 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains were run, reflecting the Railways’ growing focus on connectivity, accessibility, and passenger comfort.
In the past 21 days alone, the Railways has operated 4,493 special train trips, averaging 213 trips daily. The upcoming two days will witness an additional 1,500 special services, helping passengers reach their destinations in time for Chhath celebrations.
To handle the surge, Indian Railways has deployed additional staff, expanded ticket counters, and created dedicated passenger holding areas at major junctions. On October 19, 2025, more than 36,000 passengers were facilitated at Udhna Station alone, a 50% increase from last year.
All passengers were able to board trains by 4 pm, ensuring they reached home on time for Diwali. Over the past five days, more than 1.2 lakh passengers have travelled from Udhna, reflecting the success of the new measures.
