




Ranchi Central jail where under trial prisoners were observing Chhath festival
Prison management and security staff require fast responding lights that provide adequate illumination in different environments. That is a necessity for security requirement.It is past.
Now, new LED and colourful lights and lamps considered versatile and beautiful have illuminated the Central jail in Ranchi.
Not the least, a water body has been created inside its high walls and its prison management and staff were busy preparing “Puja samagri"( worship materials). Reason?
As many as 16 jail birds, 8 mail and equal number of female under trial priosoners,are observing four- day Mahaparv festival- Chhath.
They are not an isolated case. In fact,these 16 Ranchi central jail prisoners were among 56 prisoners were observing Chhath in Jharkhand.
In Dumka central jail,2 female prisoners; in Hazaribagh central jail,5 male and 7 female; in Palamau central jail, 4 male and 6 male prisoners;in Chas jail, 1 female prisoner;in Chatra jail, 2 male; in Dhanbad jail,4 female and 6 male; in Giridh jail,1 male;in Pakur, 1 female; and in Sahibgunj jail, 1 male prisoner were observing Chhath, according to a report in local Hindi daily- Dainik Bhaskar, page 8, date October 26,2025.
When enquired senior jail officer of the IG rank confirmed that 56 - 25 female and 31 male- prisoners were observing the four- day long Chhath Puja inside their respective jail premises.
Inquiry revealed that jail management and staff have been facilitating prisoners to observe and celebrate Chhath and other annual festivals including Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Rakhsa Babdhan since long.
