*Pictures show women prisoners offering Arghya to the Sun God inside Birsa Munda Central jail, Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand.

The four-day-long Chhath festival concluded in the state capital of Jharkhand on Tuesday with the offering of prayers to the rising Sun God.


A huge crowd of fasting women and devotees gathered at various ghats across the state. The scene was equally live inside the high walls of Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi.

The worship of rising Sun by millions of devotees, family members and friends, who visited ghats , creating a remarkable atmosphere of devotion and faith.

Scores of women devotees who were under trial prisoners arrived before sunrise at the make shift ghats created inside the jails in Ranchi, Dumka, Palamau, Hazaribagh and Chaibasa and stood in the water to worship the Sun God.

As the first rays of the Sun appeared at around 5.51 am on Tuesday,holding pots and bowls, offered "Usha Arghya" (arghya) consisting of milk and water.

After offering the arghya, women broke their 36-hour fast and had the prasad, a ritual known as "paran."

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had greetings to devotees in offering ‘Arghya’ to the setting and rising Sun along the water bodies on the concluding day. Soren invoked the blessings of ‘Chhathi Maiya’ for a their prosperity and happiness of the people of Jharkhand.

The state Information and Public Relation Department had sponsored advertisement showcasing CM Soren’s picture and his wishes for Chhath devotees.
