Every year, 15 November holds a special place in the hearts of Jharkhand residents. The day marks the birth of India’s 28 th state on the birth anniversary of tribal hero and freedom fighter Birsa Munda, carved out of Bihar in the year 2000.
This year, the central roads in the state capital were black topped, official buildings and residences were cleaned and painted and trees were covered at illuminance levels for walkers in a prominent public park in Morahabadi Maidan, the venue where cultural programme is slated to be held preceded by its inauguration by CM Hemant Soren.
Apparently, in this 2025, the state is proudly celebrating its Silver Jubilee combined with the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda , and completing 25 years since its formation.

Known as Jharkhand- forest land—the Land of the forest—Jharkhand’s journey from a regional demand to a well-recognised state is a story of determination of tribals and non tribals called locals( Mulwasi) , their culture, and development of the mineral rich region.
The celebration of Jharkhand Foundation Day honours the creation of a new Adivasi- Mulwasi state that came into existence at zero hours on 15 November 2000 after years of public movements and demands.
The formation recognised the region’s distinct geographical challenges, cultural identity, and developmental needs that were often overlooked under Bihar’s larger administration.
The year 2025 is a landmark in Jharkhand’s history as it marks 25 years of statehood—a milestone that the government led by JMM chief and Chief Minister Hemant Soren and people are celebrating with grandeur.
