*Pictures of the two-day seminar on “75 Years of the Indian Constitution: Contemporary Reflections and Future Directions”.

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, successfully commenced the first day of its two-day national seminar, “75 Years of the Indian Constitution: Contemporary Reflections and Future Directions,” organised on the occasion of Constitution Day. 

The seminar witnessed participation from jurists, legal experts, academicians, researchers, and students from across the country.

The inaugural ceremony commenced at 4.30 pm on 25th November in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Chief Justice-cum-Chancellor of Jharkhand High Court, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, who served as the Chief Guest. 

He addressed the gathering on the core values of the Constitution, the rapid expansion of technology, and the constitutional challenges likely to emerge in the future.

*Key Highlights of the Inaugural Session*

The Chief Guest was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour.

The programme began with the traditional welcome of the guests and the lighting of the lamp.

Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor, delivered the welcome address, emphasising the university’s constitutional commitments and social responsibilities.

Prof. (Dr.) Shyamala K., Dean, highlighted the university’s achievements and the increasing national and international recognition earned by NUSRL students.

*Felicitation Ceremony*

Two distinguished students were honoured during the session:

Ms. Sakshi Jamuaar, an alumna who secured All India Rank 89 in UPSC and joined the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Ms. Maloti Hembram, who will represent India at GIIC 2025 in Berlin.

Launch of Key Initiatives

During the inauguration, three major initiatives of the university were launched:

A project on Under-Trial Prisoners and Continuing Legal Education

The CSR-supported “Right to Livelihood (Nyay Setu)” project in collaboration with CCL

Release of the NUSRL Newsletter

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil highlighted the university’s service-oriented initiatives:

Free legal aid services, rural awareness drives, and field research that support vulnerable communities

Flagship initiatives like the Under-Trial Project and Nyay Setu, which play a vital role in strengthening access to justice and upholding constitutional values

Advocate General Shri Rajiv Ranjan discussed post-Emergency constitutional amendments, the liberalisation era, and several landmark Supreme Court judgments.

Hon’ble Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad reflected on the evolution of the Constitution, emphasising key developments related to the rights of economically weaker sections and progressive interpretations of Article 21.

Chief Guest Hon’ble Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan stated that the Constitution is a living document. He highlighted the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, data-driven governance, and emerging technologies. Referring to the Puttaswamy judgment, he discussed the significance of the Right to Privacy and stressed that many new challenges will confront the legal system in the coming years.
