The forest department has initiated a move to set up a modern elephant rescue centre for the effective treatment of injured elephants in the Jharkhand’s Kolhan division comprises three districts: East Singhbhum, Seraikela Kharsawan district, and West Singhbhum.
Already, the Jharkhand forest department officials have approached Vantara, established by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation in Gurajat’s Jamnagar district, for setting up the elephant rescue centre in Kolhan.
The move comes after ten persons lost life in man- elephant conflict during the past ten days in West Singhbhum’s Saranda,Poreyahat and Kolhan forest division.
After the death of three persons of a family in Goilkera area of the Kolhan, the state forest officials contacted Vantara Rescue centre and planned to set up a modern Elephant Rescue Centre in Kolhan.
Earlier,in Dalma forest there was a plan to create an elephant rescue centre. “We had sent a proposal to the state headquarters for setting up an elephant rescue centre. As soon as we get the approval, work on the ground will start to build the centre. This will help us rescue and provide proper treatment to injured elephants,” Saba Alam Ansar is on record having said on December 15, 2025.
However, the forest department’s plan is yet to be approved and fund released by state government in Jharkhand.
