Fear and grief has engulfed the tribal inhabited area located in between Nawamundi and Hatgamariah in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand where a wild elephant has trampled to death eight persons on the intervening night of Tuesday- Wednesday( January6-7,2025).

Reports claim that the a rampaging elephant, exhibiting aggressive, destructive behavior, often triggered by stress, habitat loss, disorientation, displacement from the herd,or provocation, leading to property damage, injuries and fatalities.

The deadly incident taking place in one night occurring in the area where human-elephant conflict is high due to encroaching development.

The forest officers were exploring ways to tranquillise or use lethal force to catch this mentally unbalanced elephant.

The latest incident is part of events involving elephants trampling structures, attacking people, killing them, and causing widespread panic.
