*Preparation afoot for inauguration of local Defence Estates Office in Ranchi on January 17,2026 near Radium Chowk in Ranchi, Jharkhand

*DEO Ranchi to manage 6178 acres of Defence Land in Ranchi, Jamshedpur,Ramgarh, Hazaribagh and Pakur

Right now, Defence land in Ranchi is managed by the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE), an organisation under the Ministry of Defence.

Matters related to defence land in the state of Jharkhand previously required travel to the Danapur, Bihar office.

This is past. A local Defence Estates Office in Ranchi is set to be inaugurated by Governor Santosh Gangwar
tomorrow( January 17,2026).

DGDE Ranchi office built infront of the residence of Senior Superintendent of Police residence at Radium road chowk will start operating from here.

Under its jurisdiction lies 6178 acres of Defence Land in Ranchi, Jamshedpur,Ramgarh, Hazaribagh and Pakur.

The DGDE office is to be operated by 2 Defence Estate Officers of Grade 1 and Grade 2 each, 1 Estate Officer, 1 Sub - EO from its Danapur office have been posted for its new office.

DEO functions as the custodian of defence land records, including the management and preservation of Military Land Registers and General Land Registers.

Acquisition and Disposal: The DEO handles the acquisition, hiring, or requisitioning of land for the Ministry of Defence through state governments, and the disposal of surplus defence lands.

Litigation and Disputes: The DEO is responsible for defending all title suits and government interests in litigation related to defence lands.
Encroachment: Action against encroachment on defence land is a continuous process, taken under the provisions of the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971 and the Cantonment Act, 2006.

NOCs and Construction: The office is responsible for issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for matters related to army land and permissions for construction of buildings adjacent to defence establishment.
