NMDC Limited ( earlier National Mining Development Corporation)has commenced mining operations at its Tokisud North Coal Mine, located in the Barkagaon Block of Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand.

The move marks a significant milestone in the public sector company’s expansion into the coal sector.

The mining operations officially began on January 23, 2026, in line with regulatory disclosures made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

NMDC stated that the date of commencement of commercial production will be announced in due course, following the stabilization of mining activities and completion of statutory processes.

The launch of mining operations at Tokisud North underscores NMDC’s strategic diversification beyond iron ore and reinforces its role in supporting the nation’s energy security through responsible and sustainable resource development.

NMDC Limited (formerly National Mineral Development Corporation) is involved in coal mining in the Barkagaon block of Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, specifically operating the Rohne Coal Block. This project spans approximately 825 hectares (2038.58 acres). 

The Tokisud North Coal Mine has an annual production capacity of 2.30 million tonnes (MT) of thermal coal, which is expected to contribute to strengthening domestic coal availability and support India’s growing energy requirements.
