London/Ranchi - During his visit to London, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Hemant Soren, who returned from London, had held an interaction with citizens of Jharkhand origin currently employed in the United Kingdom. 

The interaction included nurses, caregivers, domestic workers and others engaged in the service sector.

Participants shared their experiences of working abroad and spoke about the social, cultural and emotional bond they continue to maintain with Jharkhand despite having lived and worked in the UK for several years. They also drew the Chief Minister’s attention to various challenges faced while working overseas.

Listening carefully to the concerns raised, the Chief Minister stated that the Government of Jharkhand would study the provisions of laws framed by the Government of India for Indians working abroad. He emphasised that just as systems are in place to safeguard the rights of workers within the State, similar efforts would be explored to ensure the protection of rights, dignity and welfare of Jharkhand-origin workers employed overseas. In this regard, the Chief Minister also held discussions with the Indian Ambassador concerning the welfare of Jharkhand-origin workers in the UK.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the Government of Jharkhand accords the highest priority to the dignity, safety and well-being of its citizens working abroad. He stressed that overseas employment should offer respect, security and better opportunities. He further acknowledged the significant contribution of Jharkhand-origin nurses, caregivers and semi-skilled workers abroad, whose work strengthens the State’s identity at the global level.
