

Ranchi: Two significant academic programmes concluded successfully at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi.
This was on Sunday( March 15,2026).In the 2nd Surana & Surana – NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition, the team from Symbiosis Law School, Noida emerged as the winners, while the National Law University, Jodhpur, secured the runners-up position. Alongside the competition, the Continuous Legal Education (CLE) Programme for Young Lawyers also concluded successfully.
Both programmes commenced on 13 March 2026 and continued for three days, bringing together law students, young advocates, and legal experts from across the country. The events were organised under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil.
During the 2nd Surana & Surana – NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition, discussions highlighted the importance of moot courts in legal education and their role in shaping the advocacy skills of law students. Speaker Preetam Surana spoke about the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal profession and encouraged aspiring lawyers to prepare themselves for technological advancements in the field of law.
The Chief Guest, Justice Ambuj Nath (Retd.), former Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, delivered the keynote address highlighting the importance of integrity, dedication, and continuous learning for building a successful legal career.
After several rounds of intense competition, Symbiosis Law School, Noida emerged as the Winner, while the National Law University, Jodhpur secured the Runner-Up position.
Alongside the competition, NUSRL organised a Continuous Legal Education (CLE) Programme for Young Lawyers, which included a series of expert-led sessions on professional ethics, courtroom procedure, legal research, advocacy skills, and emerging technological challenges in the legal profession.
During the programme, Assistant Professors Dr. Sanchita Tiwari, Mr. Shubham Srivastava, Dr. Mritunjay Mayank, and Dr. Kaushik Bagchi delivered lectures on topics such as professional ethics in legal practice, practical courtroom procedures and advocacy skills, handling hostile witnesses, and the art of oral submissions and courtroom advocacy.
On the second day, Advocate Sonal Tiwari conducted a session on Access to Justice, Legal Aid, and Public Interest Litigation (PIL). On the third day, Shri D. C. Mondal conducted a practical session on court filing procedures, vakalatnama formalities, and district court practice. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Kaushik Bagchi on Natural Justice, Mens Rea, and Systems of Adjudication.

The concluding session was delivered by Inderjeet Sinha, Senior Advocate at the Jharkhand High Court, who provided practical guidance on case preparation, legal drafting, and effective client interaction. He also encouraged young advocates to rely on authentic legal sources and maintain professionalism and humility before the court.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil stated that NUSRL is committed to creating opportunities not only for young lawyers but also for law students to develop their skills and professional competence. He expressed satisfaction that the university is emerging as a platform that promotes quality legal education, practical training, and equal opportunities for aspiring legal professionals.
Through these initiatives, NUSRL Ranchi has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening legal education and supporting the professional development of both law students and young advocates.
