

Justice S.B. Sinha
Ranchi: National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) will organize the 4th Justice S. B. Sinha Memorial Lecture today ( Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. ) in the Plenary Hall.
The memorial lecture will be delivered by Mrs. Justice B. V. Nagarathna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The lecture will be on the theme: “Environmental Justice & Climate Change: How Courts Can Lead the Way Forward.”
The programme will be held in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. S. Sonak, Chief Justice, High Court of Jharkhand cum-Chancellor of NUSRL who will attend the event as the Guest of Honour. Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. N. Prasad, Judge, High Court of Jharkhand, will be present as the Special Guest for the event.
The lecture is being organized in memory of Late Justice S. B. Sinha, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, to honor his contributions to the judiciary and to promote discussion on important contemporary legal issues.
The programme will commence with a formal welcome, followed by the memorial lecture and addresses by distinguished guests, and will conclude with a vote of thanks.
The event is expected to witness participation from legal scholars, academicians,advocates, students, alumni of NUSRL and other members of the legal fraternity.

Note: About Justice S.B. Sinha
He was B.Sc., B.L., – Born on August 8, 1944 at Dhanbad. Passed his Matriculation examination from H.E. School, Dhanbad. Did his B.L from Chota Nagpur Law College in 1967. Joined the Dhanbad District Court in 1968 after which he shifted his practice to Ranchi after constitution of the Permanent Bench of the Patna High Court in 1976. Designated as Senior Advocate by the Patna High Court. Appointed as the first Government Advocate of the Ranchi Bench of the Patna High Court. Elevated to the Bench of Patna High Court on March 9, 1987. Transferred to the Calcutta High Court on May 11, 1994. Appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court in 1999. Appointed Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on December 11, 2000. Transferred to the Delhi High Court on November 26, 2001. Appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of India on October 3, 2002. Retired on August 8, 2009.
