Cheetah lovers are in cheers across the country as four cubs have been born to an India-born cheetah in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, Union Environment.

This information, made public by Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, said on Saturday (April 11, 2026), has gone viral, thanks to Cheetah lovers. “ We are proud of forest officers and staff who were responsible for the grand success of the project Cheetah”, said Soni Singh, a staff member of Palamau Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand.

Notably, the birth of four cubs has brought India’s total population of cheetahs to 57.

Mr. Yadav is on record having said that this is the first recorded cheetah birth in the open forest since India’s reintroduction programme for the big cat species, Project Cheetah, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, as all previous births have taken place inside Kuno’s large-ranging enclosures.

Now the cubs have been born to a daughter of South African cheetah Gamini.
