Different journeys. Same roots.

For Dr. Abhijeet Prasad Sinha, the road from Ranchi based XISS to a Government of India patent has been anything but linear. It has moved across public health, healthcare management, international development, academia and digital innovation—but at its heart, it has remained a journey driven by one constant: the desire to turn knowledge into meaningful impact.

A Ranchi-born professional and an alumnus of the Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Dr. Sinha completed his MBA/PGDM in Rural Management in 1999–2001. More than two decades later, his academic and professional journey has taken him into the emerging intersection of public health, technology and healthcare innovation.

His latest milestone has brought that journey into national focus.

When research becomes an idea that can travel beyond academia

On 6 August 2026, the Patent Office, Government of India granted Patent No. 598128 for a ‘Diabetes Management System’, under application number 202311002366, with Dr. Abhijeet Prasad Sinha among the inventors.

The achievement has its roots in his doctoral research in Population Health Informatics at DIT University, where his work focused on mHealth and nutrition-informatics interventions for the self-care management of Type 2 diabetes at home.

That research led to the development of Swayam Diabetes, an integrated mobile-health platform designed to support people in managing diabetes through a more user-centred approach.

Published research around the project explored the application's usability and utility in home settings. The journey, therefore, was not simply from an idea to a patent. It was a longer chain—from identifying a healthcare challenge, to researching it, designing a digital intervention, evaluating it and ultimately securing intellectual-property recognition.

And that is perhaps what makes the milestone particularly significant: a doctoral research question has moved beyond the pages of a thesis to become a recognised piece of intellectual property.

A career built across boundaries

Dr. Sinha's professional journey mirrors the interdisciplinary nature of his research.

Over more than 22 years, he has worked across India, South Africa and the UK, with experience spanning public health, healthcare, international development, government programmes, corporate organisations and academia. His professional associations have included CARE India, Hindustan Unilever, KPMG, PATH, EY's Technical Support Unit supporting the Department of Health Research, NHS UK and other organisations.

Today, he is an Associate Professor at IIHMR University, Jaipur, with expertise spanning public health, health informatics, healthcare leadership, health technology assessment, artificial intelligence, digital health and healthcare systems. His research portfolio also includes contributions to The Lancet and the Global Burden of Disease Study.

The patent is, in many ways, another chapter in a career that has consistently brought together health, technology, research and real-world application.

Patience. Perseverance. Hard Work. Purpose.

For Dr. Sinha, however, the patent is not simply an achievement to be placed on a résumé.

Reflecting on the milestone, he speaks of the values that have shaped his professional and academic journey: patience, perseverance, hard work and purpose.

His message is strikingly simple: some results take years to become visible. Patience builds resilience. Perseverance helps overcome challenges. Hard work creates opportunities for meaningful impact.

And perhaps that sentiment explains the journey better than any list of credentials can.

Because the patent was not created overnight. It emerged from years of learning, research, experimentation and persistence—eventually connecting a doctoral study in population health informatics with a nationally recognised innovation in digital healthcare.

The XISS connection

There is another thread running through this story.

Before the PhD, before the digital-health research and before the patent, there was XISS, Ranchi.

Dr. Sinha's MBA/PGDM in Rural Management at XISS between 1999 and 2001 became one of the early chapters of a career that would eventually span continents and disciplines.

Yet the significance of an institution is often measured not by how long someone stays there, but by how long something of it stays with them.

That idea sits at the heart of CONNEXION 2026, the annual XISS alumni meet of the Delhi NCR chapter. The gathering brings together alumni across generations and disciplines, creating space not only to reconnect with old classmates but also to discover where different XISS journeys have led.

This year's CONNEXION is scheduled for 10 October 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, with student interactions in the afternoon followed by the alumni meet in the evening. The event is designed to bring together alumni from areas including Human Resources, Marketing, Rural Development, Finance and Information Technology.

Dr. Sinha's story fits naturally into that larger tapestry.

A home that travels with you

For some alumni, XISS may be a chapter they completed years ago.

For others, it remains something closer to home—a place whose lessons, friendships and values continue to surface in unexpected ways.

Dr. Sinha's journey offers one such reminder.

A young professional from Ranchi entered XISS at the turn of the millennium. More than 25 years later, his work sits at the intersection of public health and technology, with a Government of India patent recognising an innovation that grew from his doctoral research.

The geography changed. The roles changed. The questions became more complex.

But the journey remained rooted in learning—and in the belief that knowledge is most valuable when it can create something useful for society.

As XISS alumni prepare to return to Yashobhoomi for CONNEXION 2026, stories such as Dr. Sinha's make the idea of ‘different journeys, same roots’ more than a reunion theme.

Because leaving XISS may mark the end of a campus chapter. It does not have to mark the end of the connection.

And for Dr. Abhijeet P. Sinha, the journey clearly continues—with another milestone behind him, and many more questions still ahead.
