The Palamau district administration is continuing its search to locate the ‘newborn and the dog’, but in vain.
Enquiry revealed that a stray dog was spotted carrying the body of a newborn infant in its mouth at the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in Medininagar, Palamau district, Jharkhand, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
A day later, on Wednesday, October 28, the cops were yet to find the dog and the ‘infant.’
Around 10:00 AM on Tuesday, visitors and hospital staff saw a stray dog roaming around the MMCH premises with the remains of a newborn. A video went viral on social media. Enclosed is a photo of the video that went viral.
Soon, Palamu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kapil Chaudhary, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar Sanjay Pandey launched an immediate inquiry and search operation on campus.
Through CCTV footage and questioning, the administration tracked two women who left a nearby private facility—Uttam Hospital and Ultrasound Centre (located about 100 meters from MMCH) carrying a bag around 5:12 AM and heading toward the MMCH post-mortem house.
Investigators found that an 8-month fetus, following the abortion of a 16-year-old minor girl from the Patan block, was discarded on the MMCH grounds. The district administration subsequently sealed Uttam Hospital and Ultrasound Centre.
Now the Palamau district authorities are busy verifying the authenticity of the video and determining whether any negligence was involved.
A viral video purportedly showed a stray dog carrying a ‘newborn baby’ on the premises of a hospital in Jharkhand.
Authorities in Jharkhand conducted a search at Medinirai Medical College and Hospital in Palamu on Tuesday after a video purportedly showing a stray dog carrying a newborn baby on the hospital premises went viral on social media.
Officials searched several areas of the hospital campus but found no concrete information about the newborn or the dog during the initial operation.
The video widely shared on social media showed a stray dog running away with what appears to be a newborn baby clamped in its mouth. The search was led by the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police, along with the sub-divisional magistrate, news agency PTI reported.
Following the initial search, Palamau DC directed the sub-divisional officer to coordinate with the hospital superintendent, the local station house officer and a team from the Medininagar Municipal Corporation to conduct a thorough search for the baby and the dog.
Officials were also instructed to examine CCTV footage from the area around the post-mortem house, deploy a police dog squad and speak to local community health workers, residents and passers-by to establish the facts.
The primary objective of the administration is to locate the mother of the newborn, verify the facts surrounding the incident, and uncover any negligence to fix accountability and ensure that appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law,” Sekhawat said.
