A group of tribal who left Jharkhand and gathered today ( November 1,2026) at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi for opposition-led protests targeting electoral roll revisions and demand-driven demonstrations are from Mander in Ranchi.
Most of these tribals, who in separate interviews to YouTubers have acknowledged not knowing any thing about ‘ SIR’ or ‘electoral roll revision’ and expressed in common that they were visiting the national capital for the first time to ‘enjoy’, were from Mander in Ranchi.
“ So far I had only heard about Dilli, but now I have seen it myself”,smiles Joitni Murmu. She is echoing the sentiments of a dozen tribal women who participated in the anti- SIR protest organised by the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led Opposition in New Delhi.
Mander ( ST Reserve) Assembly constituency is represented by Neha Tirkey, Agriculture Minister of Jharkhand. She is learnt to have mobilised these tribals after their two-day Rajee Padha Rajkiya Murma Jatra had concluded on October 27-28.
Free from Murma Jatra, they appeared relaxed and in a state of joy travelling by Bus arranged by the Minister. In any case, Murma Jatra brings together faith, tradition and community.
More than a major tribal gathering, it keeps alive the memory of a historic understanding between the Munda and Oraon communities — one rooted in coexistence and brotherhood.
According to local tradition, the Jatra commemorates an agreement reached when the Oraon community migrated from Rohtasgarh to the region.
The understanding between the Munda and Oraon communities became a symbol of mutual respect and social harmony. The annual gathering continues to honour this shared history and its enduring message.
A defining feature of the Jatra is the gathering of Sarna flags representing 40 Padhas. Traditional priests, religious leaders and their respective Khodhas — customary dance groups — participate in the celebrations. Rituals are performed at the Shakti Khunta under the leadership of Sarna religious leader Bandhan Tigga.
The formal inauguration includes the lighting of 40 traditional lamps, representing the participating Padhas.
Faith, Participation and Public Arrangements
The Governor, Chief Minister and other dignitaries have been invited to the inauguration.
These devotees from across Jharkhand looked joyous while attending the anti- SIR protest demanding resignation of the Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar.
Be that as it may, these tribals having participated in Mudma Jatra, have left a message. No politics. Unity Is a Living Tradition.
Murma Jatra reminds them that cultural heritage is not preserved by rituals alone, but by the values communities choose to carry forward. Its significance lies in celebrating identity while honouring coexistence. In a diverse society, the strongest traditions are those that bring people together — across generations, communities and differences.’SIR’ or anti - SIR protest seen to make little sense to them.
