By Utkarsh Leo: Happy to learn that a seminar on “Addressing gender inequalities through the active involvement of men and boys in the process” is being organised by Panchayati Rule and Gender Awareness Training Institute (PRAGATI) with the support of National Commission for Women (NCW) on 12th April 2017 at RLEK Auditorium, 68/1, Suryalok Colony, Rajpur Road,Dehradun.

The 80 participants are expected to participate in it.They include students, Elected representatives, SHG members and other stakeholders from different walks of life.

As it is,gender equity cannot be achieved without the involvement of men and boys but change is slowly taking place, and men are increasingly working alongside women to support gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

Which is why perhaps,it is widely recognized that improving women’s status and advancing their rights yields benefits for whole societies, not just women and girls. Ensuring access to sexual and reproductive health services and protection from gender-based violence, among other important measures, improves the health of families and the economic well-being of entire communities.

Against this backdrop,PRAGATI is organizing a seminar on “Addressing gender inequities through the active involvement of men and boys in the process” with the support of the National Commission for women in Dehradun District of Uttarakhand state.

Apparently, the target group shall consist of Women – (elected women representatives, Self-help group members, women gram sabha members etc.), members of civil society, academicians, men (especially youth - students), government functionaries and other relevant stakeholders. The National Women’s Commission and State Women’s Commission will be active partners.

The objectives of the workshop are to understand the existing situation in regard to gender equity approaches and the involvement of men in these initiatives, Lend policy direction for arriving at a suitable plan for involvement of men/boys in the process of attainment of gender equity and provide a knowledge sharing base for academicians, policy makers, researchers, practitioners to share experiences and successful approaches towards the involvement of men towards gender equity.
