Students want police to withdraw anti-Romeo drive in Ranchi After Uttar Pradesh,it is Jharkhand where the police has been carrying anti-Romeo squads across the state.However,while in UP,the move was started by the BJP's Yogi Aditya Nath government following the directive issued by the Allahabad High Court,the scene was different in Jharkhand. 
In Jharkhand,the BJP government has directed the police to take stern action against harassers.Result?The police have swung into action and its personnel were questioning boys and girls in several parks and college premises in Ranchi.Though no arrest was made so far,the parks and college campuses were in grip of terror.

"We don't dare to even talk to our girl friends",cribs a student of St.Xavier's college in Ranchi.Student Union leaders were critical of the move."Why this sense of terror was created",asked a girl student."What is wrong if boys and girls move around together,talk and gather at the park.This is part of co- education",she added.

In fact,anti- Romeo is against co-education reflecting diversity in society in schools and colleges.So because by studying and interacting with each other,boys and girls learn and enter the workforce.Moreover,most students who study in co-educational schools and colleges feel comfortable about who they are and have a healthy and positive attitude and self -image.

No doubt,if any boy indulges in ragging or teasing,the police must act against him on the basis of complaint filed by the girl.As such,the state government and the police must not use 'moral' agenda to terrify boys interacting and discussing with their girl friends."We condemn the anti-Romeo drive.It must be withdrawn as soon as possible",said a girl student of XISS,Ranchi.

  • Girls' perceptions of their abilities in maths and science are nearly identical, whether they attend single-sex or co-educational schools.
  • Working together in the classroom and on homework assignments provides boys and girls the opportunity to learn from each other intellectually, as well as socially.
  • Teachers in co-educational schools recognise that some gender differences in learning do exisit and are skilled in catering for diverse learning needs in the classroom.
  • In a co-educational learning environment, students are exposed to both male and female role models in staff and senior students.
  • The ancient greek philosopher, Plato, said that co-education creates a feeling of comradeship - he advocated the teaching of both the male and female sexes in the same institution without showing any discrimination in imparting education.

  • For both girls and boys, co-education provides a more realistic way of training young people to take their places naturally in the wider community of men and women: it helps to break down the misconceptions of each sex about the other and provides an excellent foundation for the development of realistic, meaningful and lasting relationships in later life.
