With Raksha Bandhan around, Rakhi is in the news. In Jharkhand, women dressed in tribal attire moved around a tree, singing and dancing and then tied Rakhis.

Among Hindus, sister ties Rakhi on her brother's hand, wishing him happiness and security in life. In Chakulia village,50 km from Jharkhand's steel city Jamshedpur, these tribals had tied Rakhi on a tree last year.

As the event continued, these women were asked why they tied Rakhi on a tree and pat came reply from one of them."We want to bring awareness that trees are a major source of our life. We want it to remain free from timber mafia, fully secured ."

In Jamshedpur, Marwari Mahila Manch organized Rakhi fair. Being held for the last 21 years, the fair aims to give a platform to women entrepreneurs to sell their handmade products. The fair concluded on July 24, two days before the Rakhi festival.

In Ramgarh, a brother has gifted toilet to his sister in lieu of Rakhi.'She faced a huge problem. I preferred to gift her a toilet with a modern flush and water facility",ndtv.com quotes her brother saying.     

The women dressed in traditional tribal attire showered trees with water sang songs in tribal language and then tied rakhis.

Janki Munda, who took part in the event told ANI, “People are mercilessly cutting down forest trees. We have to check this otherwise there will be no forests left.”
