While the Election Commission of India is looking forward to organise the third phase of Assembly polls 2019 in Jharkhand on December 12, sporadic incidents of violence marked the conclusion of the second phase of polls on Saturday.

The percentage of polling in 20 seats was 63.36 percent. Notably, in firing opened by security forces in Maoist infested Baghni village in Sisai Block in Gumla district caused the death of a villager."They were compelled to open fire as a violent crowd was gathering at the booth to cause disturbance", said a security personnel.

The polling is stopped as tension prevailed in Baghni. However, normalcy has returned, said a villager.

In another incident, Maoists who had called for a boycott of the polls had blasted a bomb in Koriya village in Chaibasa, headquarter town of West Singhbhum district last night.

In the second phase,260 candidates including Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, his rival Saryu Rai and Speaker Dinesh Kumar were in the fray.

Among 260 candidates,29 candidates were female. The total electorates were 48,25,038. Against polling of less than 65 percent this time in 2019, the polling percentage in these constituencies was 68.01 percent, according to a report.
