Ahead of the fifth and final phase of Jharkhand Assembly polls on December 20, the police have recovered Rs 43.98 lakhs in cash in Pakur district of Santhal Pargana.

Two persons were taken into custody."An inquiry is on", said the police without uttering a word about their political background.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel recovered this huge sum of cash from inside a house. Now the process of inquiry is centered around the 'source' and purpose for holding this huge fund in home before the polls.

The IT officials were looking into the case as they suspect the cash was stored to 'buy' votes in tribal-dominated areas of Pakur where polls are slated to be held in the concluding round on December 20, three days before results are scheduled to be declared on December 23.
