Jharkhand Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department is in the process to introduce change in the Jharkhand Forest Produce Rule 2020 that was notified in June, said AP Singh, Principal Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department.

The change will clear doubts of the villagers regarding the usage of wood for fire and other personal works. Necessary direction has been given by the Chief Minister in this regard.

While addressing the media at Project building, Singh said that the Department had framed transit rules in the month of June under which Jharkhand Forest Produce Rules 2020 was notified.

It fixed the rate of firewood at Rs 25/cubic meter. This along with uncertainty about other forest produce created doubts. “The state government will soon make some changes in the Jharkhand Forest Produce Rules 2020, in which rate of firewood at Rs 25/cubic meter will also be deleted”, he said.

He said that it is clear in the manual that if the villagers use wood as firewood or other personal works within their village limits, then they will not have to pay any kind of fee nor license is required. But the villagers will not be allowed to sell them. If villagers use wood for business, then they have to pay a fee.

PK Verma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jharkhand, said that the use of wood within the village limits is legal for firewood or other private works but not for sale. But if villagers use the woods obtained from forest cutting for road construction or other works in the forest area for business purpose, permission will be required.
