*Picture shows unmarked Adivasi girls gearing up to join group dance on the eve of Karma at Karamtoli, Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand state of India.

Karma puja is rocking. Scores of men, women, and children are singing, dancing and thereby celebrating this annual festival of Nature worship in Ranchi.

Top government functionaries including Governor Draupadi Murmu, Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon appeared to be in cheers. Some of them were spotted playing Nagara(Drum).

As it is, Karma, a harvest festival, is celebrated with pomp and show by indigenous people(Adivasis) in vast parts of India such as Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Odisha and West Bengal. The scene is different this time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a community celebration is missing. The family members are celebrating the annual festival in their own houses. No family was spotted in group.

However, as part of Nature’s worship, it revolves around the worship of Karam-Devta (Karam-Lord/God). It pictures the god of power, youth, and youthfulness.

These are required while performing rituals during the puja (worship) of the Karam God.

On this occasion of festivity, I, on behalf of all staff and journalists associated with JharkhandStateNews.com wish you all happy Karma festival.
