A 27-year old man is in jail. A court in Ramgarh has sentenced Naresh Mahato to life imprisonment after he was convicted of killing his wife for dowry two years ago in 2018 in Patratu, Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.

"We thank the court for providing justice to us", said Sukhmani Devi, a  relative of the victim.

The Ramgarh court had on Wednesday awarded life term to 27-year-old wife Dayamani Devi after she had failed to pay him a dowry of Rs 50,000. Devi's father had lodged FIR against his son-in-law Naresh Mahato.

Judicial records accessed by www.jharkhandstatenews.com show that the court of Additional District Judge Sanjay Pratap Singh had found Mahato guilty of killing his wife under section 304(B) of IPC (dowry death) on September 24 and had set aside September 30 for pronouncing the quantum of punishment.

More,10 witnesses, including the Police Investigating Officer and Assistant Sub Inspector of Patratu police station, Ram Pravesh Sharma, were examined by the court.
