Jamshedpur among six district towns of Jharkhand are badly hit by the black fungus ( mucormycosis). These towns are Jamshedpur, headquarter town of East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, Garhwa, Ramgarh, Giridih and Palamau.

Across the state 79 confirmed and 53 suspected cases have been reported to date in 18 of the total 24 districts in Jharkhand.

Among these six district towns, 21 cases were reported in Jamshedpur, 18 have been confirmed while five patients have died.

Other districts that reported black fungus cases are Hazaribagh( 10), Garhwa(8), Ramgarh(7), Giridih and Palamau (6) each.

Most of these black fungus are being treated at the state government-run RIMS hospital, Ranchi, Tata Memorial Hospital, and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur.
