It’s a freebie with a difference in Jharkhand. As per the directive of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the power consumers have been provided a massive relief in making payment of electricity bills.

The state energy department has notified the order dividing consumers into four types.

One, those nearly 32 lakh consumers, who make use of 100 units of electricity, will not have to pay any bill.

Two, those consumers who use 101-200 units of electricity, will have to pay the bill at the rate of Rs 3.50 per unit.

In the past, they had to pay Rs 4.20 per unit thereby they will get a subsidy of Rs2.75 per unit. In addition, a fixed charge of Rs 75 will be collected.

Three, those consumers who use 201-400 units, will have to pay Rs 4.20 per unit.

And those consumers who use more than 401 units will have to pay Rs 6.25 per unit.

The rural consumers will be provided a subsidy of Rs 4.10 per unit.

The commercial users of power were not given any relief. And as such, like in the past, they will have to pay Rs 6 per unit.
