One most wanted Naxalite of the banned CPI- Maoist party was arrested by the joint team of police of two districts - Garhwa and Palamau.

The arrested was identified as Ravindra Mehta alias Chota Vyas, a resident of Kodia village under Bishrampur police station in Palamau.

He was CPI- Maoist party’s Sub-Zonal Commander who operated in areas falling under three districts - Garhwa, Palamau and Latehar where he faced more than two dozen cases of serious crimes such as murder, extortion and loot.

The state government had declared Rs 5 lakh award for passing information leading to his arrest. No body succeeded in gaining this award as this naxal remained underground.

Now, the police, following a tip-off that Chota Vyas had come to meet his wife in Majhiyaon police station area in Garhwa,a joint team of Palamu and Garhwa carried out a search operation and nabbed him.

Though the police have not officially confirmed his arrest, it is learned that he was being interrogated at an undisclosed site. Senior cops believe that they may be able to bust a network of naxals on the basis of his reevaluations.

And, due to his arrest,a drop in incidents of naxalite violence cases in Palamau division in Jharkhand is expected.
